Sof-Tan is a phenolic syntan. It is fully reacted and contains no free phenol. It is considered a replacement tannage that produces a white leather, with exceptional coloration and stretch qualities. Tanned skins are washable and have an indefinite shelf life. It will not discolor furs or hair. It is an excellent choice for Taxidermy and Rug work. It is highly recommended for all furs, hair-on and wool-skins.
We recommend using Sof-Tan with an acid pickle. After pickling and shaving (if necessary), drain and then neutralize the skin or cape briefly for 20-30 minutes, and rinse before placing it into the tanning solution. For neutralizing - use 2 Tablespoonfuls (1 oz.) of Sodium Bicarbonate (baking soda) to each 1 gallon of water used. Always mix enough solution to completely submerge the skins or capes without crowding. Leave the skins in the tanning solution for 16-20 hours - never over 24 hours.
